Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
There’s a lot of laughter when Episcopal Church Women get together.
And a lot of love.

Since 1871, the National Episcopal Church Women, ECW, have championed women’s rights and the Christian foundation of God and family. They are a ministry of the Episcopal Church and celebrate that Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Their women’s ministry and children’s programs feed, educate, and provide community grants around the world. They are a volunteer organization that creates a legacy for Episcopal Church Women to lead future generations with stewardship in Christ.

UPCOMING CHAPTER MEETINGS (Chapters meet monthly, October – April)

Monday Evening Chapter meets at 7 p.m. typically in someone’s home: For more info, including meeting locations and addresses, contact Heidi Swygert at 404-513-3250.

Thursday Morning Chapter (locations vary): The Thursday morning ECW group, newly named the St. Dorcas Chapter, meets the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. in the Commons Room at Saint Anne’s.

Are you wondering how we came up with naming our group the St. Dorcas Chapter? St. Dorcas (Greek) was a female apostle, very unusual for the times, and was a good friend of St. Peter. Dorcas was a charitable woman caring for the poor, ill, elderly and widows. She sewed for the needy and fed the hungry. Come join our friendly group as we make blankets for the Grady babies, prepare and serve a dinner to the Agape children, make Palm Crosses, and learn from guest speakers. For more info contact Helena.r.shuford@gmail.com

Wednesday Terrace Chapter (at The Terrace).  Details to come.

ECW administers the United Thank Offering (UTO). The UTO is a program through which empty change boxes are distributed to the parish for individuals to fill as a way of expressing thanks when the Spirit (or extra change) moves them. Proceeds are sent to the National UTO office, where they are used to address compelling human needs though grants and programs that alleviate poverty, both domestic and international.

Kick-off Event – In addition to monthly Chapter meetings, the ECW hosts a church-wide event for women once a year. ECW kicks off fall chapters at our annual dinner in September. All women are invited to participate in ECW. All women of Saint Anne’s are automatically members of ECW.
