Register now for the Icon Writing Retreat to be held at St. Anne’s, April 17 – 21. Kara Gillette of Sophia Icon Studios in Boise, ID will lead us in this retreat in which we will explore the ancient spiritual practice of icon writing.
Each day will begin with a brief Eucharist and spiritual reflection before moving into our work. Starting with a blank board each participant, using both traditional and modern materials, techniques, and practices, will write an icon of St. Anne – grandmother of the church and patron saint of grandmothers and mothers. By focusing on prayer, contemplation, and community, each icon created represents and witnesses to our inner and outer journey toward God.
No prior art or icon experience is needed. As an iconographer Kara takes great joy in sharing with others how the process of icon writing can draw them into the love of God and reveal their inherent creative nature. One particular joy comes when people with little faith in their artistic abilities suddenly see that they too are capable of creating beauty in this world.
Cost for the retreat is $550. This includes all supplies and materials, instruction, and lunch daily.
