Lent Begins Feb 18
Ash Wednesday is February 18 and marks the start of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and repentance before Easter, symbolizing mortality and a call to spiritual renewal. During Ash Wednesday services, clergy apply ashes in the shape of a cross on foreheads. The ashes are made from last year's Palm Sunday palms signifying returning to dust, as in "From dust you came, to dust you shall return," but also redemption through Christ. For the faithful, this solemn day often includes fasting, abstaining from luxuries, and reflecting on one's relationship with God.
